INDIAN RAILWAY . . . . . . THE GOELDEN ERA The first railway on the Indian sub- continent ran over a stretch of 21 miles from Bombay to thane. The ides of a railway to connect Bombay with thane, kalian and with the thal and bhore Ghats inclines first occurred to MR.GEORGE CLARK, THE CHIEF ENGINEER OF THE BOMBAY GOVERNEMENT, during a visit to bhandup in 1843. The formal inauguration ceremony was performed on 16th April 1853, when 14 railway carriages carrying about 400 guests left bori bunder at 3.30 pm “amidst the applause of a vast multitude and to the salute of 21 guns.” The first passenger train steamed out of Howrah station destined for Hooghly a distance of 24 miles, on 15th august, thus the first section of the East Indian railway was opened to public traffic, inaugurating the beginning of the railway transport on the eastern side of the sub-continent. In south the first line was opened on 1st July, 1856 by the Madras railway company.it ran between veyasrspandy and walaj

Peculiar of the earth

Image
Peculiar of the earth after the first shower The piquant, musky order that hangs in the air emanates an odorous chemical buried in the soil called ‘geosmin’ [literally, earth smell]. The smell is given off by Streptomyces bacteria, a genus belonging to the Actinomycetales order of gram actionmycetes. An asteroid heading toward Earth makes a good movie plot, but astronomers haven't yet found any heavenly bodies on such a collision course. There are plenty of asteroids in our neighborhood of the solar system, however, and a team of physicists has now discovered several new types of near-Earth-asteroid orbital motion. In the 27 September PRL they describe their theory and computer simulations of the orbits of three known asteroids. They conclude that although we are safe from collisions with such objects, there may be many asteroids inhabiting these newly discovered orbits, including undiscovered satellites of Earth. The orbits are examples of "coorbital motion," where

ROBOTIC BALL TO CHASE

Image
ROBOTIC BALL TO CHASE A robotic ball, originally designed for use on mars can be used to catch burglars. The device acts as a high tech security guard capable of detecting an intruder with the help of radar and infrared sensors. Once alerted the 2 feet black ball can summon help sound an alarm or pursue the intruders taking pictures at speeds of to 20 mph. The device, developed at the University of Uppsala, acts as a high-tech security guard capable of detecting an intruder thanks to either radar or infra-red sensors. Once alerted, it can summon help, sound an alarm or pursue the intruders, taking pictures. It is capable of travelling at 20mph, somewhat faster than a human being. Even worse for intruders, the robot ball can still give chase over mud, snow and water. The ball relies on an internal pendulum to control its motion which, when shifted, changes the centre of gravity and starts it rolling. Other devices, including microphones, cameras, heat sensors and smoke detectors a

UNIQUE YOU

UNIQUE YOU Various achievements about your favorite sport star, film stars or about celebrities often make you feel proud, but the very next movement it makes you feel sad, dejected. The reason is quite obvious that they are able to achieve what they desired, wished whereas you failed in your endeavor. In today’s multi-dimensional utilitarian world you have to offer something different, and something unique be it intelligence, skill, beauty or your style. It is said but a true fact that some people are born with a winning edge, still it would be unwise to ignore the immortal words by Swami Vivekananda “throughout the history of mankind ,if any motive or power has been potent than another in the lives of all great men and women it is that of faith in themselves”. Life is truly what you make it. You are the captain of your soul and creator of your destiny. For instance, NAPOLEAN BONAPARTE the greatest men before he was a small artillery man who became the greatest conquerors of

WHO HOLDS WHOM

WHO HOLDS WHOM A STORY Drinking is a bad habit and quitting it is very difficult task. An alcoholic decided to meet the well-known gandhian, vinoba bhave for advice. He visited Vinobaji’s ashram and touched his feet. He asked the saint to teach him a sure way of getting rid of the evil habit. Vionbaji didn’t know what to say. It was the first time when someone was approaching him for this purpose. He was pleased but did not give an instant solution. He gave it a thought and said: ‘okay, come again tomorrow. Call me from outside and do not enter without my permission.’ The alcoholic returned the next day. He called Vionbaji from outside. Vionbaji said, ‘I can’t leave the room; this pillar is holding me back.’ The alcoholic peeped inside. He found that it was Vionbaji himself who was holding the pillar and not vice versa. He said: ‘the pillar is not holding you; you yourself are holding it.’ Vionbaji replied: ‘it is the same in your case. It is you who is holding alcohol a

Why does the reception of transistor become clear when the antenna is touched?

Image
Why does the reception of transistor become clear when the antenna is touched? Radio frequency region of electromagnetic spectrum spreads from few kilohertz [KHz] to few thousand megahertz [MHz]. The geometry of human body allows the limbs, head and torso to act as three dimensional antenna factor. It amplifies the signal as high as five times the signal one may receive with other type of antennae like monopole, dipole and the like. We can see this effect in any radio frequency receiving instrument, such as, oscilloscope in any electronic lab or more commonly a transistor radio. If one grabs the tip of the antenna or touches the body of any transistor, the signal received multiples several-fold and the reception improves. circuit diagram of a high performance bias circuit of a radio

Why do we get fever?

Image
Why do we get fever? Our body has an average temperature of 37 degrees Celsius when we are healthy. Disease causes the temperature to rise, and we call this higher temperature ‘fever’. While every disease does not cause fever, so many believe that fever is almost always a sign of illness. When we do have fever our temperature should be recorded at least twice a day, so that the doctor can observe a pattern: a fever chart for malaria for instance, goes up and down in a certain way; one for pneumonia another way. And so on. The curious thing is that we still do know what fever really is but we do know that it actually helps us fight off sickness. Fever makes the whole body work faster to produce more hormones. Enzymes and blood cells; to get blood cells to destroy germs better. In a fever our blood circulates faster, we breathe quicker, and we get rid of wastes and poisons in our system better. But the body cannot afford to have fever too often or too long. When fever for 24 hour

Sea Planes

Image
SEA   PLANES Sea planes are aircraft that take off and land on water. They are specially designed to remain afloat. Many seaplanes have light, hollow, streamlined floats fixed below the wings in place of landing wheels.                                           The floats rest on water and make the aircraft buoyant. They also help to stop the seaplanes tipping over. Seaplanes called flying boats have a boat shaped body that combines the main floats with the main body of aero planes. Aircraft with retractable wheels built into the floats are called amphibians. These planes can use either land or water as their runway. Seaplanes need no specially built runway, so they can stop at more planes than ordinary aircraft. But they need fairly smooth water.
