Siberian Huskies

Image
Siberian Huskies have a thicker coat of fur than almost any other breed of canine. It actually has two layers, a dense undercoat and a longer topcoat of short and straight hair. The fur protects the dogs from the Arctic temperatures and weather. Interestingly, the Husky doesn’t suffer in the summer, because the coat reflects heat. The undercoat usually sheds off and requires weekly grooming. The H usky can withstand temperatures of -58 to -76 degrees Fahrenheit. Siberian Huskies come in a variety of colors and patterns, usually with white paws and legs, facial markings, and tail tip. The most common coats are black and white, then less common copper-red and white, grey and white, pure white, and the rare "Agouti" coat, though many individuals have blondish or piebald spotting. Striking masks, spectacles, and other facial markings occur in wide variety. Overall they are exquisite canines with amazing capabilities. The picture above is of Siberian Husky with brown almond

10 things you need to know about Stephen Hawking

Image
1) Born in Oxford on January 8 1942 - 300 years after the death of astronomer Galileo Galilei - Professor Hawking grew up in St Albans, Hertfordshire. After being diagnosed with a rare form of motor neurone disease - amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) - at the age of 22, Hawking was given just a few years to live. 2) Hawking is as much a celebrit y as he is a scientist, having appeared on The Simpsons, Star Trek and having provided narration for a British Telecom commercial that was later sampled on a Pink Floyd album. 3) He had a difficult time at the local public school and was persecuted as a "swot" who was more interested in jazz, classical music and debating than sport and pop. Although not top of the class, he was good at maths and "chaotically enthusiastic in chemistry". Hawking has said of his workload as an undergraduate at Oxford "amounted to an average of just an hour a day". He also said: "I'm not proud of this lack of work, I&#

The Great Wall of China

Image
The Great Wall of China is a series of stone and earthen fortifications in China, built, rebuilt, and maintained between the 5th century BC and the 16th century to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire from Xiongnu attacks during the rule of successive dynasties. Several walls, referred to as the Great Wall of China, were built since the 5th century BC. One of  the most famous is the wall built between 220–206 BC by the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang; little of it remains; it was much farther north than the current wall, which was built during the Ming Dynasty. The Great Wall stretches over approximately 6,400 km (4,000 miles) from Shanhaiguan in the east to Lop Nur in the west, along an arc that roughly delineates the southern edge of Inner Mongolia, but stretches to over 6,700 km (4,160 miles) in total. At its peak, the Ming Wall was guarded by more than one million men. It has been estimated that somewhere in the range of 2 to 3 million Chinese died as

Boomerang

Image
| Background: A boomerang is an aerodynamically shaped object designed to fly efficiently through the air when thrown by hand. The term usually refers to an object made to follow a circular flight path that returns it to the thrower. (Some sources describe all aerodynamic "throwing sticks" as boomerangs, separating them into "returning" and "nonreturning" categories.) Traditional designs are V-shaped, but newer versions may have irregular shapes or more than two arms. Two design components give the boomerang the capability of circular flight. One is the arrangement of the arms, and the other is the airfoil profile shape that allows the arms into wings. During flight, the boomerang spins rapidly (about 10 revolutions per second). The wing profiles create the same lift effect that makes airplanes fly. In addition, the spinning motion creates gyroscopic precession, which pulls the boomerang into a circular path. A similar effect can be seen with a

Keep sharing Facts You Never Knew With a head like a fighter-plane cockpit, a Pacific barreleye fish shows off its highly sensitive, barrel-like eyes--topped by green, orblike lenses--in a picture taken in 2004.

Z Machine

Image
This is the Z Machine at Sandia National Laboratories. In 2006, the machine created a plasma that reached a temperature of two BILLION Kelvin, hotter than the interior of stars. This was at the time arguably the hottest human made thing ever. The Z Machine is used to study the physics of Solar flares and model nuclear explosions. It creates these high temperatures by focusing 20 million amps of electricity into a small region further confined by a magnetic field.

Nokia Kinetic Concept Phone

Image
The Nokia Kinetic Concept Phone was designed to be used through movement. The not inconsiderable posterior is not only there to hold the camera, but it also contains an electro-magnet. The magnet moves, shifting the weight distribution and allowing the phone to effectively 'stand up' on its own. This allows for a rather novel way to interact with the phone, to reject a call, you simply tap the phone and it will retreat back to its original position.

Easter Island Statue

Image
The enduring image in the public's mind of the mysterious heads on Easter Island is simply that - heads. So it comes as quite a shock to see the heads from another angle - and discover that they have full bodies, extending down many, many feet into the ground of the island. The Easter Island Statue Project has been carefully excavating two of 1,000-plus statues on the islands - doing their best to uncover the secrets of the mysterious stones, and the people who built them. Inside the Easter Island statues: Experts have known about the bodies before, but when these images started circulating readers doubted their authenticity The team also found large quantities of red pigment, some of which may have been used to paint the statues Project director Jo Anne Van Tilburg said: 'Our EISP excavations recently exposed the torsos of two 7m tall statues. 'Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of visitors to the island have been astonished to see that, indeed, Easte

Asteroid DA14 had hit Toronto facts about space rocks hitting the Earth

Image
That asteroid that flew by earlier today may have been  17,200 miles away from Earth , but scientists say the event should be considered a wakeup call. I mean, a ten ton space rock exploded over Russian skies today  and left a warpath in its wake—asteroid 2012 DA14 is estimated to be 140,000 tons. Something that immense could do even more damage. Scientists say there are tens of thousands of undiscovered objects “roaming [Earth’s] neighborhood,” and it’s only a matter of time before there’s a life-threatening impact. It’s unlikely something will occur anytime soon, but we only need refer to our planet’s history to get an idea of what can happen. As early as 65 million years ago a 6-mile-wide asteroid struck Earth and completely wiped out the dinosaurs. NASA currently has eyes on up to 90 percent of near Earth asteroids that exceed 0.6 miles wide—big enough to threaten humanity—but scientists say there are thousands of smaller rocks nearby that could become a threat. Take a Glass of water before a Good Lesson

Image
A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they'd be asked the "half empty or half full" question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: "How heavy is this glass of w ater?" Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz. She replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn't change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes." She continued, "The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of

Uses & Benefits of Podina

Image
Podina is used as a carminative and an expectorant. The plant is highly effective in treating headaches, rhinitis, cough sore throat, colic, prurigo and vomiting. It serves as a good blood cleanser, since it is antiseptic and anti-bacterial. Podina plays a significant role in alleviating swollen gums, mouth ulcers and toothaches. Crushed and bruised pudina leaves are used in treating insect bites. The decoction and infusion of its leaves and stems helps in fever, stomachaches, dysmenorrheal and diuresis. Fresh leaves of podina are crushed and sniffed for dizziness. Crushed leaves are also applied on the forehead and temple, to cure headaches. For toothaches, boil 6 tablespoons of pudina leaves in 2 glasses of water, for 15 minutes. Strain and cool the water. Divide it into two parts and take each part after 3 to 4 hours. Boil 6 tablespoons of chopped leaves in 2 glasses of water, for 15 minutes. Cool and strain. Divide the decoction into 3 parts and consume three times a day.

Smallest New Bron Kangaroo . . .

Image
A newborn kangaroo is less than 2 cm in length (less than an inch) when born and weighs about half a gram. It is about the size of a kidney bean.  A baby kangaroo (joey) when born is a blind, hairless embryo that makes it way from the birth canal of the mother kangaroo up to and into the mother's pouch. The joey then latches onto a teat inside the pouch, which then swells inside mouth of the joey,  basically securing it from falling or being jolted from the pouch. The joey then continues to form and grow. The mother kangaroo can have two joeys of different ages in a pouch, at the same time. When this occurs, the mother actually gives two different milks for each joey, according to its nutritional needs. At the same time, she may have an older, almost -weaned joey, which requires a third milk. The more mature joey will leave the pouch as a fully formed animal with sight and fur and able to move around, a little less than half the height of the mother kangaroo. It will quickly re

The Fastest Plane on Earth!!

Image
Since 1976, the "Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird" has held the world record for the fastest ‘air-breathing manned aircraft’ with a recorded speed of 1,905.81 knots (2,193.2 mph; 3,529.6 km/h). That works out to a staggering 36.55 miles/58.83 km per minute. The Blackbird was so fast that its strategy against surface-to-air missiles was to simply accelerate and outfly them. B elow you will find an extensive gallery of this iconic aircraft along with information on the history, design and records the plane holds to this day. The SR-71 served with the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1998. Of the 32 aircraft built, 12 were lost in accidents, though none to enemy action. Since 1976, it has held the world record for the fastest air-breathing manned aircraft. The first flight of an SR-71 took place on 22 December 1964, at Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, California. The first SR-71 to enter service was delivered to the 4200th (later, 9th) Strategic Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base,
