speed of the bearing

Image
Each bearing type has its own limiting speed. The theoretical speed that bearings can run at safely, even if heat generation by internal friction occurs, is called the maximum permissible speed. The permissible speed is related to bearing type, type of cage, lubricant type, load and cooling conditions to which the bearing is subjected  For contact rubber seals(2RS type), the permissible speeds are limited by the peripheral velocity of the seal lip.  Normally, this is approximately 50 - 60% of that of non-contact rubber seals. If light contact rubber seals are required, this must be stipulated with the order. If high loads occur, the permissible speed values must be reduced and the following supplementary factors applied, except under standard operating conditions(Cr/P<12, Fa/Fr>0.2 )  COMPENSATION FOR MAXIMUM PERMISSIBLE SPEED DEPENDENT ON LOAD RATIO   Cr/P 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 COMPENSATION FACTOR 0.72 0.79 0.85 0.90 0.93 0.96 0.98 1.00 COMPENSATION FOR MAXIMU

MECHANICAL error was the cause of death

MECHANICAL error was the cause of death of a young Namibian pilot in May this year at the Hosea Kutako Intentional Airport, the final report on the incident has found. The investigation into the death of Tiaan Oberholzer (21), a Desert Air pilot on May 22, has determined the cause of the accident was due to a "broken left hand magneto ground wire". In the final report issued this month, the Directorate of Aircraft Accident Investigations at the Ministry of Works and Transport, stated that Oberholzer "decided to do a final walk around inspection" after he had loaded four passengers into the Cessna 210 aircraft. He was due to fly the passengers on a safari flight to Doro Nawas and other tourism destinations. The report notes that when the aircraft was parked at the tarmac, Oberholzer decided to do the final walk around inspection and "without knowing that the left hand magneto ground wire was broken, he manually rotated the propeller resulting in a pre-detonatio

Radial engine mechanism

Image
The radial engine is a reciprocating type internal combustion engine configuration in which the cylinders point outward from a central crankshaft like the spokes on a wheel. This configuration was very commonly used in large aircraft engines before most large aircraft started using turbine engines. In a radial engine, the pistons are connected to the crankshaft with a master-and-articulating-rod assembly. One piston, the uppermost one in the animation, has a master rod with a direct attachment to the crankshaft. The remaining pistons pin their connecting rods ' attachments to rings around the edge of the master rod. Four-stroke radials always have an odd number of cylinders per row, so that a consistent every-other- piston firing order can be maintained, providing smooth operation. This is achieved by the engine taking two revolutions of the crankshaft to complete the four strokes, (intake, compression, power, exhaust), which means the firing order is 1,3,5,2,4 and back

what is a music ?

Music is an art form whose medium is sound . Common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony ), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo , meter , and articulation ), dynamics , and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture . The word derives from Greek μουσική ( mousike ), "(art) of the Muses ." The creation, performance , significance, and even the definition of music vary according to culture and social context. Music ranges from strictly organized compositions (and their recreation in performance), through improvisational music to aleatoric forms. Music can be divided into genres and subgenres , although the dividing lines and relationships between music genres are often subtle, sometimes open to individual interpretation, and occasionally controversial. Within " the arts ," music may be classified as a performing art , a fine art , and auditory art. There is also a strong connection between music and mathematics . To many

four-bar linkage

Image
A four-bar linkage [or] simply a 4-bar or four-bar is the simplest movable linkage . It consists of four rigid bodies (called bars or links), each attached to two others by single joints or pivots to form a closed loop. Four-bars are simple mechanisms common in mechanical engineering machine design and fall under the study of kinematics . If each joint has one rotational degree of freedom (i.e., it is a pivot), then the mechanism is usually planar , and the 4-bar is determinate if the positions of any two bodies are known (although there may be two solutions). One body typically does not move (called the ground link , fixed link , or the frame ), so the position of only one other body is needed to find all positions. The two links connected to the ground link are called grounded links . The remaining link, not directly connected to the ground link, is called the coupler link . In terms of mechanical action, one of the grounded links is selected to be the input link , i.e., th

Crank Slider Mechanism

Slider-Crank Mechanism ,   arrangement of mechanical parts designed to convert straight-line motion to rotary motion , as in a reciprocating piston engine , or to convert rotary motion to straight-line motion, as in a reciprocating piston pump. The basic nature of the mechanism and the relative motion of the parts can best be described with the aid of the accompanying , in which the moving parts are lightly shaded. The darkly shaded part 1, the fixed frame or block of the pump or engine, contains a cylinder, depicted in cross section by its walls DE and FG, in which the piston. for the video of the above mechanism click here

Motor Vehicle Safety

Image
Motor Vehicle Safety As the phrase aptly puts it - "it is better to be late than be Late Mr..." Accidents on Indian roads are more a rule than an exception today. The reasons are many. Underage drivers, reckless, drunken driving, no regards for safety of self and others... It is up to each one of us, all of us who use the roads (and everyone does), to be aware of all safety rules, and follow them. For example, how many of us use seat belts, even though we know we should, how many of us speed through red lights, knowing that we might collide with an oncoming vehicle. These are exactly the things we should avoid. At our site, we tell you ways to ensure your and your co- passenger's safety, do's and don'ts while driving, tips to prevent your vehicle from getting stolen, and much more. The next time you are in the driver's seat, remember to follow them.      Fasten your seat belts Car crashes are a leading cause of death. Aside from always following traffic signs

Make engine perform more efficiently

Image
Make your engine perform more efficiently Increase displacement - More displacement means more power because you can burn more gas during each revolution of the engine. You can increase displacement by making the cylinders bigger or by adding more cylinders. 12 cylinders seems to be the practical limit. Increase the compression ratio - Higher compression ratios produce more power, up to a point. The more you compress the air/fuel mixture, however, the more likely it is to spontaneously burst into flame (prior to the spark plug igniting it). Higher octane gasolines prevent this sort of early combustion. That is why high-performance cars generally need high octane gasoline - their engines are using higher compression ratios to get more power. Stuff more into each cylinder - If you can cram more air (and therefore fuel) into a cylinder of a given size, you can get more power from the cylinder (in the same way that you would by increasing the size of the cylinder). Turbo chargers and super

Maintenance Tips

Maintenance Tips A well maintained vehicle speaks volumes about you as an owner. More importantly, it will not desert you when you need it most. Read on for tips on specifics. Engine Oil: To prevent engine deterioration, it is imperative that the engine maintains the amount of oil it is programmed to receive. Negligence in this aspect will lead to a deteriorating engine performance, resulting in falling mileage. Fuses: Most Indian cars are made with an integrated circuitry system that use fuses. Knowledge of the system would help when you are stranded due to a blown fuse. Lights: It is important for the lights to be properly focused, for your own and for the oncoming vehicle's safety. Travel on low beam so that it does not obstruct your view instead of helping you along. Tyre Pressure: The required amount of air pressure needs to be strictly maintained if your car is to get the right mileage and pick-up. Water: If your engine uses water for cooling, take care to ensure that it i

Auto Maintenance

Image
Auto Maintenance Maintenance is something most of us ignore, until our vehicle stops functioning, that is. And then we wonder what went wrong, where. Maintenance is one of the most serious aspects of ownership. It determines the longevity, performance and reliability of whichever vehicle you drive. Looking after your vehicle involves more than taking care of its external coat of paint and keeping it clean and shiny. Maintenance means taking care of all the parts, even those that are inside the bonnet. These are the ones that directly concern the performance of your vehicle. Besides taking it to the service station at regular periods, it is a good idea to go through the owner's manual that will give a fair idea about its routine maintenance. Checking the battery, keeping a check on the oils, changing the oils, checking the electrical system, are some of the absolutely unavoidable things to keep your vehicle in good shape. Keeping a log book in which you keep all the details regardin

Steering Systems

Image
Steering Systems 27.6.1. Function and Linkage of a Steering System The function of a steering system is to convert the rotary movement of the steering wheel in driver's hand into the angular turn of the front wheels on road. Additionally, the steering system should provide mechanical advantage over front wheel steering knuckles, offering driver an easy turning of front wheels with minimum effort in any desired direction. The main causes of stiff steering include (i) insufficient lubrication of the king-pins or steering linkage, (it) tyre pressure too low, (Hi) wheels out of track, i.e. toe-in not correct, and (iv) stiffness in the steering column itself, caused by lack of lubricant or over tightening. The steering system is designed to enable the driver to control and continuously adjust the steered path of the vehicle. Also it provides a positive response to whatever direction the driver may makes on the steering wheel. Fig.27.42. Relationship of steer angle speed and vehicle spee
