ocean on saturn's moon

Image
Saturn's moon , Enceladus , is covered with geysers shooting plumes of water vapor, icy particles and organic compounds. Instruments aboard NASA's Cassini spacecraft detected have carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and various hydrocarbons in the gas plumes.                                       New data from NASA's Cassini spacecraft indicates one of Saturn's moons, Enceladus, may have a fizzy ocean capable of harboring life.                                                                           The findings could explain the vast icy plumes of water that spray into space through fissures -- known as tiger stripes -- on the moon's frozen surface. "Geophysicists expected Enceladus to be a lump of ice, cold, dead and uninteresting," lead Cassini planetary scientist Dennis Matson from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena California said. Instead scientists have recently discovered the moon is covered with geysers shooting plumes of w

Hydraulic Braking System

Image
Hydraulic Braking System A hydraulic braking system transmits brake-pedal force to the wheel brakes through pressurized fluid, converting the fluid pressure into useful work of braking at the wheels. A simple, single-line hydraulic layout used to operate a drum and disc brake system is illustrated in Fig. 28.36. The brake pedal relays the driver's foot effort to the master-cylinder piston, which compresses the brake fluid. This fluid pressure is equally transmitted throughout the fluid to the front disc-caliper pistons and to the rear wheel-cylinder pistons. As per the regulations a separate mechanical parking brake must be incorporated with at least two wheels. This provision also allows the driver to stop the vehicle in the event of failure of the hydraulic brake system. Fig. 28.36. Hydraulic single-line braking system. In a hydraulic braking system the braking force is directly proportional to the ratio of the master-cylinder cross-sectional area to the disc or drum-brake wheel-

automotives

Image
* Automotives * The last 100 years has seen the rise of the automobile as our primary mode of transport. The technology is constantly evolving and there are no signs of decline in the industry. Automotive engineering is the combination of mechanical engineering, vehicle dynamics, drivetrain engineering and engine design to form a subject that deals with all aspects of vehicle design.  Automotive engineers study such subjects as aerodynamics, vehicle ride and handling, power generation, crashworthiness and even management,  looking at every component in modern vehicle construction. The entire automotive drivetrain, including the suspension, transmission, brakes, tyres and engine, can be modelled and simulated on computer making development of new components/vehicles a quick and relatively inexpensive process. With these new concepts emerging in an already large discipline, automotive engineering is an ever expanding field. As we move into the 21st century, the automobile, in all its for

Internet Business Chart We went to the library this week with one goal in mind: Check out a copy of The Divine Comedy so that we could read it and feel intellectually, nay, morally superior to anyone playing Dante’s Inferno. We sort of felt conflicted about making fun of it, since we’d never read the source material, either. Well, the library only had one copy, and it was checked out. So all we have to offer you is Dante’s Internet, from No Cats on the Blog. Many points for the nods to Godwin’s law and Shepard Book ’s special hell. Click for a bigger version in the NCotB post, where you can read all them fiddly writin’s.

10 Facts about living in outer space

Image
'10' Facts about living in outer space... During one day you will experience 16 sunrises The sun rises and sets every 90 minutes in low Earth orbit, making it really hard to sleep well due to the absence of normal day/night cycles. To counteract this, ISS administrators set astronauts' schedules on a 24-hour, Earth-based timetable to keep their activity as grounded as possible. The clocks onboard the ISS are set to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), about halfway between Houston, Tex., and Moscow. To keep astronauts on that schedule, Mission Control sends wake-up calls to shuttle missions. They typically play music, which is either requested by an astronaut or an astronaut's family member. Astronauts on the ISS, on the other hand, wake up with the help of an alarm.[link 1] You will grow taller Without the compressive force of gravity, your spinal column expands and you grow taller, usually by between 5 and 8 cm. Unfortunately, the extra height can bring complications,

Blinding Flashes Leave Astronaut's Eyes Damaged

Blinding Flashes Leave Astronaut's Eyes Damaged Dark Sky, Bright Sun. Credit: STS-82 Crew, NASA. by Patrick L. Barry for NASA Science News Huntsville AL (SPX) Oct 25, 2004 Gazing out of their space capsules, Apollo astronauts witnessed sights that humans had never before seen. They saw the breathtaking view of the Earth's bright blue disc against the inky black of space. They saw the far side of the Moon. They also saw strange flashes of light inside their eyeballs! Since then, astronauts aboard Skylab, the Shuttle, Mir, and the International Space Station have all reported seeing these flashes. No need to call Agents Mulder and Scully of The X Files, though: what the astronauts are experiencing is space radiation zipping through their eyes like subatomic bullets. When a "bullet" strikes the retina, it triggers a false signal that the brain interprets as a flash of light. Needless to say, this is not good for your eyes. Years after returning to Earth, many

UNUSUAL NATURAL PHENOMENS On June 18, 2008 Mike Hollingshead from "Extreme Instability" documented the advent of the weirdest storm: giant waves of rolling thick fog, cresting over the landscape….Similar weather phenomenon, according to witnesses, happened in England (Penzance, Cornwall) – perfectly defined, very slow moving wall of the densest fog ever seen. Here is another bank of thick rolling fog – this time at Rock Mills Rd. in Rappahannock County, Virginia:

Amazing Bridges

WORLD'S AMAZING BRIDGE : The Atlantic Ocean Road is a 8.3-kilometre (5.2 mi) long part of County Road 64 which stretches an archipelago in Eide and Averøy in Møre og Romsdal, Norway. Located at the northern part of the coastal area of Hustadvika, it connects the villages of KÃ¥rvÃ¥g on Averøy with Vevang in Eide on the Romsdal peninsula on the mainland. The road is one alternative connecting the towns of Kristiansund and Molde, via the Atlantic Ocean Tunnel. The inland connection between those two cities is the Krifast bridge/tunnelsystem.                                                                                         Construction work on the Atlantic Ocean Road started on 1 August 1983, with the opening taking place on 7 July 1989. During this period there were no less than 12 hurricane-like storms in the area. The road is built on several small islands and skerries, and is spanned by eight bridges and several landfills/viaducts. This road has an open sea view wh

wind generator

Image
, How To Make a Wind Generator Wind Generator :- wind energy can be economically used for generation of electrical energy by wind mills. It invilves the conversion of kinetic energ of the wind into mechanical energy that can be utilised to perform useful work or to generate electricity. Advantages of wind energy :-                                       1.wind power is pollution free and that its source of energy is free. 2.Particularly suitable for small, remove domestic and form needs in the aeras with stands the winds. 3.For small power ranges the system is less cost.         Disadvantages of wind mills:- 1. size of wind mill is large and the system has a relatively high over all weight. 2.very much noise is produced in this operation. 3.wind energy is unsteasdy due to variation of the wind direction, velocities and wind flow duration. *IF YOU WANT TO MAKE A WIND MILL IT IS VERY SIMPLE PROCUDURE TO FOLLOW*       Free the earth from green house gases.Try to decrease
