Differential Lock

Image
Differential Lock In a two-wheel drive vehicle if one driving wheel loses adhesion, the propelling force is considerably reduced. This results in the immobilization of the vehicle so that the differential action becomes undesirable on the vehicles designed to operate over poor surfaces. This action can be prevented by locking together any two individual units of a differential. One such arrangement is illustrated in Fig. 26.45. A sliding dog clutch member is splined to a differential sun wheel, which engages with dog teeth formed on the cage of the differential. The clutch is engaged by means of a fork, which can be moved by a lever fitted on the outside of the axle. When engaged, the sun wheel, and hence the rear wheel connected to this sun gear, is made to turn at the same speed as the cage. Locking one sun gear to the cage in this way ensures that the other sun gear also turns at the same speed. Fig. 26.45. Differential lock

Work Safe with Computer

Image
Work Safe with Computer Are you spending a lot of time sitting at the computer, doing school work or playing games? Working with a computer for long hours can affect different parts of the body, like our hands, wrists, back, and eyes. If you want to keep these parts as healthy as possible then you have to take some precautions. Sitting Square in Your Chair: One of the most important things you should do at the computer is sitting in your chair. This means keeping your body straight when you’re sitting with your behind in the center of the seat. Your legs should come out straight with your knees and your feet don’t reach the floor, use a footrest. Your back should be touching the seat back the keyboard while you type. And if you can use a seat that has a support for your lower back, that’s even better. Typing time: And speaking of typing: you don’t need to hit those keys very hard to type. A light touch will do the job. While you’re typing, make sure your fingers don’t have to

Liberator

Image
Liberator On display at the West Point museum is an example of the “ Liberator ” pistol mass produced during World War II. Little more than a stamped-metal “ zip gun ” the idea was to produce at minimal cost the minimal firearm capable of putting down an enemy soldier.  It was a one-shot weapon ( with storage in the grip for a few extra rounds ), not intended for combat use. Instead, the idea was that it would be airdropped to partisans across Europe, who would use it to cap Axis soldiers… and then take *their* guns. Relatively few of the millions produced still exist; fewer still were actually used. They came packaged in a carboard box with a cartoon instruction sheet. A wooden dowel rod was also included to help the shooter eject a spent cartrige. Given its limited practical value, they are really rather pricy, and if you find a boxload of ‘em, scrapping them for the steel would be a really, really bad idea.

A tiny slice of Africa

Image
A Tiny Slice of Africa One of the four countries from Africa that kicked off its debut at the recent FIFA World Cup in football was Togo (the others were ivory coast, Angola and Ghana) Togo is a pencil thin strip of land in western Africa, nestled between Benin, Ghana and Burkina Faso, It has an Apology of a Cost line bordering the gulf of Guinea, where its capital city lome is located. Before the 1990’s Lome was called the pearl of West Africa for its pristine beaches. European traders arrived in Togo in the 16th century, trading in slaves with local tribal chiefs. One of them signed the land to Germany in 1884. The Germans taught the Togolese how to cultivate cocoa, coffee and cotton and mine phosphate, till today, Togo’s main source of wealth. World War I brought in the French and British who portioned out the tiny nation. When colonialism ended in africa.british Togo land joined Ghana while the French side declared its independence as a separate nation in 1960. Since then, T

BIRD FLU!!

Image
BIRD FLU!! There are at least 15 different types of avian influenza that routinely infect birds around the world. The current outbreak is caused by a strain known as H5NI, which is highly contagious among birds and rapidly fatal. Unlike many others strains of avian influenza, it can transmitted to humans causing severe illness and death. Influenza viruses are highly unstable and have the ability to mutate rapidly, potentially jumping from one animal species to another. Scientists fear the bird flu could evolve into a from that is easily spread between the people, resulting in in an extremely contagious and lethal disease. This could happen if someone already infected with the human’s flu vires catches the bird flu. The two viruses could recombine inside the victim’s body, producing a hybrid inside that could readily spread from person to person. The resulting virus likely would be something humans never been exposed to before. Within immune defenses, the infection could cause deva

DEAD SEA

Image
DEAD SEA DEAD SEA we heard this name that it is a sea studied in our childhood days. This is located in between the Africa and gulf of Persia. Scientists are still puzzled over the geological factor that created the remarkable body of water known as the sea, which lies further beneath sea level than any other spot on earth. This extremely dense and saline sea, which has a far greater concentration of minerals than any of the oceans, and is unable to support any life form, is the source of life giving properties to all who choose to bathe in it. Floating on the sea is not just fun, it relaxes the body and does the skin and the joints a world of god. Everybody can float in its water as its saline water has a high density that keeps bathers buoyant [ie; able to float]. Although called the Dead Sea, this sea and the whole region on its shore is very much alining. The Dead Sea lies 417 m [1373 feet] below sea level at the lowest point on the earth’s surface. It is a part of the Syri

FLAME OF OUR FREEDOM STRUGGLE

FLAME OF OUR FREEDOM STRUGGLE - Bhagat Singh Bhagat singh was born in September 27, 1907 in khatkar kalan, Punjab, in India. His grandfather Arjan singh, father kishan singh, and uncle Ajit singh, were all active in the freedom struggle. While studying at the D.A.V school in Lahore, in 1916, young Bhagat singh came into contact with some well – known political leaders like Lala Lajpat Rai and Ras Bihari Bose. In response to Mahatma Gandhi‘s call for no – cooperation against rule in 1921, Bhagat singh left his school and joined the newly opened national college at Lahore. At this college, which was a center of revolutionary activities, he came in contact with revolutionaries such as Bhagwati charan, sukhdev and others. He became a member of the Hindustan republican Association formed by the revolutionaries of Uttar Pradesh and was initiates into their firebrand activities. The revolutionaries were branded as terrorists by the British government. They believed that given the u

Hitting the earth in '2036'

Image
Hitting the earth in ' 2036 ' Apophasis, a 1000 foots wide asteroid will pass earth on 13th April 2029, coming as close as some of our own scientists. It will be thrown off course by the earth’s gravity and, if we are very un lucky, it could swing back and hit us. It is almost certain that the asteroids which are close encounter with the earth will change its orbit. If it pass through a certain keyhole of the space only 600 meters wide, it will be deflected onto a path that will send it crashing onto the planet on its next pass on Sunday, April 13, 2036. Scientists have estimated that it has one chance in about 6,250 of hitting the earth. Such an impact would yield one of the greatest natural disasters occurring in the human life history. The impact would create a blast that the largest atomic or nuclear weapon which is thousand times much more powerful. This will kill millions of people if the impact occurred near a populated area or create a enormous Tsunami if the impac
